Windermere Foundation Presents Funding
to Chess for Success
This $2,500 donation will bring the program to 17 high-poverty students
PORTLAND, Ore. — May 22, 2014 — Windermere Real Estate recently presented a check at its Southwest Portland Heights branch to Chess for Success, a nonprofit organization that brings chess programs to 35 schools in the Portland metro area.
Independent research shows that Chess for Success enables students to be patient and analytical in problem-solving situations, creating an increase in academic achievement and self-esteem. Chess for Success will use the $2,500 to provide after-school chess clubs for a full year to 17 high-poverty students at Boise Eliot school in North Portland.
Windermere has a long-standing tradition of assisting low-income families and giving to the community. In addition to helping Chess for Success, Windermere associates participate in annual community service projects and donate a portion of every commission to the Windermere Foundation — a nonprofit organization that has raised and donated more than $2 million to programs that support low-income children and families in the Portland metro and north Oregon coast area.
