Windermere Foundation Presents Funding to Girls Inc.

This $2,500 donation will allow Girls Inc. to  continue to

provide gender-specific programming to low-income students.

LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. — November 19, 2013 — Windermere Cronin & Caplan Realty Group, Inc. (Windermere) recently presented a check at its Lake Oswego branch to Girls Inc., a nonprofit organization located in the Portland-metro area that works to empower girls to lead economically independent lives.

The mission of Girls Inc. is to inspire girls to be strong, smart and bold. Girls Inc. will use the $2,500 to provide after school programming to 20 low-income girls that are at risk of substance abuse, violence and poverty. These after school programs, or Girls Groups, are led  by trained Girls Inc. facilitators who lead discussions and activities that focus on media and financial literacy; education in science, technolgoy, engineering and mathematics (STEM); leadership skill building and substance abuse prevention—resulting in increased self-confidence, knowledge and pro-social behaviors.

Windermere has a long-standing tradition of assisting low-income families and giving to the community. In addition to helping Girls Inc., Windermere associates participate in annual community service projects and donate a portion of every commission to the Windermere Foundation — a nonprofit organization that has raised and donated more than $2 million to programs that support low-income and homeless families in the Portland metro and north Oregon Coast area.

About the Windermere Foundation

For every home that is bought or sold through Windermere, Realtors donate a portion of each commission to the Windermere Foundation, which supports low-income and homeless families in our communities. What started in 1989 as a grassroots foundation has grown to encompass ten states and has raised $25 million for programs and organizations that provide shelter, clothing, children’s programs, emergency assistance, and other services to those who need our help most.

In Oregon, Windermere has raised more than $2 million for the Windermere Foundation in support of local organizations offering housing and services to homeless and low-income families. Organizations such as Bridge Meadows, New Avenues for Youth, and Providence Portland Medical Foundation’s guest housing were included in the 2012 giving.
