Give Voice and Healing to Low-income, At-risk Youth

PORTLAND, Ore. — August 8, 2013 — Windermere Cronin & Caplan Realty Group, Inc. presented a check at its NW Johnson branch to Playwrite Inc., a nonprofit organization located in Northeast Portland that helps low-income, at-risk youth work through emotional challenges through playwriting.

Playwrite Inc. will use the $750 to hold playwriting workshops with youth and their coaches and professional actors. The youth will be given the opportunity to write, direct, and produce an autobiographical play and view the final performance. Through this experience, the student will learn to trust, manage, work collaboratively, and contribute positively to their community, while processing through their emotions to eventually arrive at a place of healing.

Windermere has a long-standing tradition of assisting low-income families and giving to the community. In addition to helping Playwrite Inc., Windermere associates participate in annual community service projects and donate a portion of every commission to the Windermere Foundation — a nonprofit organization that has raised and donated more than $1,000,000 to programs that support low-income and homeless families in the Portland metro and northern Oregon Coast area.

About the Windermere Foundation

For every home that is bought or sold through Windermere, the Windermere Foundation donates a portion of the proceeds toward supporting low-income and homeless families in our communities. What started in 1989 as a grassroots foundation has grown to encompass ten states and has raised $25 million for programs and organizations that provide shelter, clothing, children’s programs, emergency assistance, and other services to those who need our help most.

In Oregon, Windermere has raised more than $1,000,000 for the Windermere Foundation in support of local organizations offering housing and services to homeless and low-income families. Organizations such as Bridge Meadows, New Avenues for Youth, and Providence Portland Medical Foundation—Guest Housing were included in the 2012 giving.
