Windermere Stellar Commits to Raising $250,000 for

Friends of the Children’s New Gresham Facility

GRESHAM, Ore. — October 2, 2014 — On the heels of Friends of the Children’s (FOTC) announcement regarding its capital campaign to build a new facility in Gresham, Ore., Windermere Stellar announces its commitment to raise $250,000 for the new facility’s kitchen.  To commemorate this, approximately 15 real estate brokers from Windermere Stellar, along with the owners of the local real estate company, Brian and Joan Allen, volunteered at FOTC’s recent celebration announcing the launch of the campaign.

“Volunteering during the festivities gave us the opportunity to see the future of what our fundraising efforts will be,” said Kerry Miller, Windermere Stellar real estate broker. “I am proud to go to work every day for a company that is involved with so many great causes. Standing on the facility’s new grounds and seeing the faces of youth who will benefit from these efforts makes it even more fulfilling.”

The 8,500 square-foot facility will be constructed in Gresham’s Rockwood neighborhood (Northeast 172nd and Glisan) on land that was secured in partnership with the City of Gresham. Along with the Windermere teaching kitchen, the facility will incorporate a garden, comfortable spaces for one-on-one time, a media center and multipurpose rooms for group activities. FOTC will leverage the facility to serve the wider community, making spaces available for parent and family program as well as to other community groups.

“We are so grateful that donors such as Windermere Stellar understood our vision early on. Commitments like these have helped the campaign reach more than 80 percent of its original goal,” said Duncan Campbell, Friends of the Children Founder. “Right now more than 50 percent of our youth live east of 82nd Avenue and that will continue to grow as more families move eastward in search of affordable housing.”

FOTC will break ground in January, 2015 and aims to finish the project in the fall of 2015.
